If you sent your resume and haven’t gotten a response—say, after a month—you should consider reapplying. It’s quite possible that your application got lost among the hundreds of others that the company receives on a daily basis.
You can also apply again after receiving a rejection letter. But make sure to do so after at least two months (if you’re still looking), and to apply for another position.
You should also update your resume accordingly. There are many reasons why candidates get rejected; sometimes, it’s because your resume didn’t reflect what they were looking for in a particular position.
When You Should Skip It: You Were Eliminated After the Interview
If you made it to the interview process, and were rejected after that, it’s time to move on. This is especially true if the job requirements haven’t changed.
It’s understandable that you’re frustrated because you think you’re a good fit for the job. But remember, sometimes, things don’t work out in our favor, and that’s fine. There are plenty of other opportunities out there that are better for you.
It’s best to focus on those new opportunities and let bygones be bygones.
When You Should Reapply: You’ve Updated Your Resume
If you’ve updated your resume and have added new skills, it’s a good idea to reapply. As alluded to above, one of the reasons why applications get rejected is that they don’t meet employers’ requirements.
By updating your resume, you’re showing potential employers that your work history and skills have changed. Just make sure you get your updated resume looked at by a professional before applying.
